Elsa Quarsell’s photography series Domestic Burlesque blurs boundaries between performance and the everyday. Her intimate pictures of burlesque performers in their own homes take backstage to the next level. They will be exhibited at Jackson’s Lane until the August 30th.

Festival No.6 Expands Line Up

imaginadium:

Festival no. 6, recently announced additions to its line up. The inaugural year of this cultural extravaganza in the idylls of Portmeirion, North Wales, is beginning to look like a highly attractive finale to the (non-existent) summer. Any one heading to Portmeirion and want to hide me in their rucksack?

Titian Metamorphosis has seen a stunningly ambitious collaboration between choreographers,  composers, artists and poets in a bid to reinterpret Titian’s most favoured motif - the myth of Diana. I remain totally enamored by the creative decision behind Machina which interpreted Diana’s steely personality in actual steel, casting her as a robot.
For fascinating insight into the creative processes behind the project, watch Alan Yentob’s Imagine episode - Dancing with Titian. Imaginadium also recommends traipsing down to the National Gallery and taking a peak at what is their most contemporary and cutting edge exhibition to date.

Alt-J can do no wrong in our eyes, with their debut album An Awesome Wave firmly at the top of our most played lists.

The video for Tessellate situates itself in the Renaissance fresco ‘School of Athens’, which depicts all the great thinkers of history. The logic of replacing philosophers with gangsters is not immediately obvious. Nor am I sure whether Raphael would have approved of all the bump and grind going down! Nevertheless, we are suckers for contemporary twists on age old themes and the effect is certainly fun and different.

Time is running out to catch the 16 BMWs decorated by names as flashy as Warhol, Hockney and Koons (the above is handiwork of A.R Penck), in their free car park turned exhibition on Great Eastern Street. Strange really, considering that BMW have been commissioning these snazzy rides since 1975.

If the smash reviews and Madonna appearing in the audience aren’t enough to get you excited about this one, I know what will. Have a gander at the eye catching, This Is Cabaret photo gallery.
